RESTAURANTS > KAO STREET

KAO Street is the new business in Barcelona of Asian food to take away from the renowned Kao group. A project with a clear purpose: to achieve a very urban space connected to the street, with modern graphic references and that transports us to a cosmopolitan culture, close to the world of fashion, graphic design, photography and New York streetfood.

KAO Street is an allegory to the street. Its owner, Meilan Kao -from the Kao family, pioneer in Barcelona of Asian food- is passionate about fashion, urban markets, graphics, New York ... She was looking for a striking design, close to these cultural movements pointers, open and multidisciplinary. A place that was striking and avant-garde and in which the border between interior and exterior was blurred.

A place to pick up your Asian food take away, but also where at some point you could sit in a cozy and modern environment, or take a look at other interesting products, such as clothes or books.

The venue has been resolved by applying all these maxims, after a creative team process together with Meilan Kao. First of all, a different distribution has been chosen than usual in this type of business: the kitchen is not in sight and the customer places his orders in a modern reception, more typical of a hotel than a food business. The space, which should contemplate the tasting option within the premises, incorporates a unique large table that follows the clear and architectural lines of the rest of the interior "box", and which invites you to think about a street in some modern district of New York, surrounded by clothes and books. The neons or the graphic covers of the books on the bookshelf remind us of the surroundings of any large city, with its lights and large advertisements.

The facade was completely opened, becoming a large window through which to look and be seen.

The material that stands out the most is neutral and clear cement. The front wall is made of large-format porcelain, like a concrete. The wall that houses the shirts and low storage unit incorporates mirrors that manage to double the feeling of spaciousness. The counter and other furniture in the space is made to measure.

The roof integrates all the air conditioning, light and audio installations, with a perforated design that gives it an urban industrial touch. What adds color to the space are the colored neons and the product on display - shirts and photography, design or art books, mainly.

The kitchen and preparation area is separated from the main area by plastic curtains. It is a space worked with the same characteristics: with steel, ceramic and cement. To this, a warehouse and cold rooms are added. Finally, a small sink that follows the same sling has been designed for the business staff.
